Synopsis

A writer of celebrity articles returns to his tiny hometown in the extreme south of the world, after 45 years of having fled from there to save his life. In that place in Chilean Patagonia, where century-old trees rise above abandoned tombs and the sea drunk with rain conceals the roots of men, the writer will try to develop “salable” stories from that end-of-the-world zone. But when doing it surrounded by his old friends, he will face his past and leave his imposture. For the first time in his life he will be able to create a great novel in which all will become characters and himself … in a real artist.

Synopsis

Soledad Rosas, aged 23, from Argentina, arrives in Italy in 1997. She moves into a community squat in Turin where she meets a militant anarchist called Edoardo Massari with whom she has a brief but intense love story. On March 5, 1998, the pair are arrested and charged with acts of terrorism against the construction of a high-speed rail network. On March 23, Edoardo Massari is found dead in his prison cell. After much resistance, however, on July 11, Soledad is found dead in the bathroom of the house where she has been living under house arrest. In 2002, the Court of Cassation in Rome dropped the charge of subversion and terrorism due to lack of evidence.

Special Mention

Synopsis

Cuban exile returns to her homeland to reconnect with a daughter she left behind twenty years before. Veronica arrives in Havana searching dilapidated apartment buildings and finds Juliette, medical student by day and “jinetera” by night. Veronica recounts her past: a bourgeois lifestyle spent living with her aunt at her family’s tobacco plantation in Viñales where she fell in love with the Afro-Cuban, Enrique. When Juliette realizes that she is the product of this forbidden romance will she embrace this stranger as her mother and leave behind the only home she’s known?

Testimonials

IndiePasión is a young festival, small but very endearing ad full of talent, with a lot of desire to grow
and surrounded by excellent people in every way. With a lot of diversity despite it’s size, and with all
the cultural wealth Latin America has to offer to media. The movies exhibited had high standards,
were very diverse, and very high quality.

Jose Luis AcostaDirector and Screenwriter

The festival captured me immediately because the organization told me that these efforts are to
help foundations. There are few festivals that dare to do something non-profit, or want to seek
social change and influence the youth, and inspire us to follow this path of telling stories with social
responsibility, while at the same time entertain the public which is what cinema really should do.
